【BBC英语教学日记】Diving 跳水 (7/716)

Thank you for your quick response to my blog on Monday when I talked a little bit about swimming-one of the Aquatics(水上运动）
　　
Today we are looking at diving (跳水). Do you know that diving is reletively recent as it was first admitted to the Olympic programme in 1904 with 10 metre platform diving and a ‘Plunge for Distance’ (看水跳得远),the meaning of which is self-evident（不言自喻）.

In 1908, a three metre springboard (三米跳台) event replaced ‘Plunge for Distance’. Synchronised diving (同步跳水) events and diving in pairs（双人跳水） were introduced at the Sydney Games in the year 2000.

So what are the styles of diving now being competed at the Olympics? Well, you have front面对池向前跳水， back面对板（台）向后跳水reverse面对池反身跳水inward面对板（台）向内跳水, twist转体跳水and arm stand臂立跳水. Points are awarded according to grace and technique动作姿态和技巧. Judges consider the starting position, the run, the take-off, the flights and the entry. (which should ideally be perpendicular身体最好保持垂直).

Well, diving is definitely one of China’s strong sports, and we hope to see more of Chinese medalists （奖牌获得者） in the Beijing Olympics.
