我是70后,在农村长大的。那时玩具种类比较少,其实多少对我来说都是一样的,我在记忆中努力的搜索怎么也想不出我儿时曾经买过的玩具。不是家人不疼我,那时条件实在太差了。

I am an after 70s man, brought up in the country.  When I was a child, there weren't so many kinds of toys. In fact, whether they produced various toys or not didn't make any difference to me, because even I rack my mind trying to call up  a toy that I bought when young, I just make attempts in vain. It's not that my family ill treated me, but we were living on a wretchedly low budget then.

不过虽然如此,我大部分时间里还是很开心的,因为有一批同龄的小伙伴可以一起玩耍。

Even so, I was mostly happy, for I had an age group to play with.

我们那时做的游戏现在很少见了,有时心里会想它们是不是在我们那一代后就“失传”了。于是突然发出一种把它们写下来的想法,它们给我和我同时代的人带来了无数的欢乐,贯穿着我们的童年,甚至可以说是我们的“文化遗产”。我实在是有必要把它们记录下来,以示纪念。

The games we played are rarely to be seen now, at times I can't help wondering whether they have disappeared since we played them. It suddenly struck me that I should keep a record of them. They brought boundless happiness to me and those at my age, keeping us company over the whole childhood, even deserving to be boasted as our "cultural heritage". It's quite necessary for me to put them down in memory of those happy times.

1. 砸大场Hitting Bricks
  
砸大场是我小时玩的最多也印象最深的一种游戏。
   道具很简单,就是几块砖和小石块或砖头。比如有五个人玩,就一排竖起四块砖(头),通常是一块完整的,然后就是多半块,半块,少半块,总体上保持一块比一块低。然后,玩游戏的人站在竖起的一排砖后,手中拿着自己感觉轻重合适的小石块或砖头,按顺序往前扔,谁扔的最远,谁就可以先砸向立着的砖,可以选择任何一个,如果将立起来的最大的砖(整砖)击倒,那就是“王”。因为立的砖比人少一个,所以当立砖全被击到时仍会有一个人没有击倒任何一块砖,这时王就可以决定怎么样处罚这个没有砸中的人。通常的处罚有敲脑壳,顶门棍(即用膝盖顶被罚者的屁股,当然不能太狠),打手等。第二次开始时就每个人站在各自曾击倒的砖前,由“王”开始扔出手中的石块或砖头,受罚者最后。这个游戏虽然简单,但是对于练习儿童的力量,准确度都很有益处。朴素的规则里蕴涵着人生的哲理,如果你想拥有优先权(先砸,这时有四个目标,击中的概率看起来比较大),你就必须把自己手中的石块或砖头扔的比别人都远,而距离上的远又会使命不中的危险加大。如果你把自己的石块或砖头扔在不远处,你击中目标的几率当然大大提升,甚至可以达到一击必中,但是只有等别人都击完后你才有机会,如果你前面的人将所有的目标都击倒了,你就只有挨罚的份了。它让人们明白,有得必有失。想要做“王”就要冒风险。而一味求稳,也可能会一无所得。如何取舍,便要根据自己的实力做出决定了。

Hitting bricks is the one that I played most and aslo the one that impressed me most.

The props are quite simple--several bricks/parts of bricks  or small stones.  Suppose there are 5 players, then 4 bricks/parts of bricks should be set up on end in a line. Bricks are usualled placed in the order of height, the highest  on one side, and the shortest one on the other. To start with, all players are supposed to stand behind the brick line, with a small stone or part of a brick in their hands as hitting tools. Then they throw their hitting tools forward one by one. The one whose hitting tool thrown farthest has privilege to hit the bricks on end, and he can choose to hit any one he wants by throwing his hitting tool at it. The one whose tool knocks down the highest brick will be "King", who possesses the right to decide on what penalty for the loser will be. Since the bricks set on end are 1 less than the players, there will always be someone who fails to strike any brick down. So "King" always has chance to wave his stick of power. "Knocking at the head", "Knocking buttokc with knee" and "slapping hand" are common penalties for a loser. Then next time players fling their tool forward in the order of the bricks they knocked down, "King" will be the first one to throw his tool, and the loser will be the last one. Simple though the game is, kids can get their strengh and degree of accuracy improved. And in its plain rules lies a profound philosohpy. If you want enjoy the right of priority (to be the first one to hit the bricks on end, and four bricks/parts of bricks makes the probablity much higher), you've got to throw your tool farther than all the others, and then the longer distance increases the risk of missing the object. If you try to place your tool near to the objects, which seems to ensure your hitting on the target, you've got to wait until all the other have finished. If all the players before you hit it right, you can do nothing but face the music.  It makes it clear that you've lose sth to gain. Want to be "King"? Ok, you've got to risk something. However, if all your mind is set on playing it safe, you may end up getting nothing. So your choice can only be made by yourself and based on your strength and skill.

2. 摔哇呜Clay Smacking
   摔哇呜的道具是粘土。我们那儿门前有一条河,河旁有很多粘土。一般的土是不行的,粘性不够,揉捏后难以成形。通常是几个小伙伴一起,一人一块泥用来捏哇呜,通常每人还会留一小块放在一边等着为对方补洞。游戏时,大家各用自己的泥捏成一个小圆盆状,底部越薄越好,这就是“哇呜”也叫“嘛呜”。然后大家一起将小泥盆口向下用力摔在干净的地上,这时盆内的空气会冲破底部形成一个洞,并同时发出爆响。如果是两个人,就各自用自己的泥将对方的洞堵上,如果是多人则提前定好谁补谁的洞。当大家一起摔下后,大家可以喊“蛋”或“片”,谁先喊出的就依谁的定。“蛋”就是用一块泥团成一个蛋,放在对方的“哇呜”洞上,片则是用泥拍成一个“片”放在对方哇呜洞下,以不漏下为准。有时被补的那一方还会拿起自己的哇呜颠三颠,以验证对方是不是补好了。如果在颠的过程中掉下去了,那就必须再加泥弄个大点的蛋或片补上。最后以各自的泥多少定胜负。所以在摔哇呜时喊蛋还是喊片是要根据自己哇呜上洞的大小来决定的,如果自己的洞大那就喊“蛋”,这样别人为自己补时就要多用泥,如果自己哇呜上洞很小,而别人的很大则喊“片”,这样为别人补时可以省泥。看似如此简单的游戏也需要眼,脑,手的多方配合才能玩好。而且摔的时候还可以锻炼力气,那一声声的爆响对于当年的我来说无异于新年的爆竹,充满了欢乐的气氛。遥想当年,紧一把腰带,揩一把鼻涕,右手高扬,腹内发力,“啪”的一声脆响,哇呜落地,底部一大洞赫然在目,一声“蛋”儿后,看着小伙伴悻悻然为自己补洞的样子,那神气,和打了胜仗的将军无异。

All that you need to play "cay smacking" is a kind of clay. There is a river in front of our village, so there is abundant clay for us to employ. Common soil would not do, because it's not sticky enough, and easy to break. It usually took two or more pals to play clay smaking, each having a lump of clay in his hand to make a "bowl" and a smaller lump to repair possible holes in other bowls. The clay is to be made into a bowl-like object, which is called "Wawu" in Chinese. Then all pals smack their Wawus upside down against a clean ground--usually a cement floor, and the bottom of the bowl will be broken through by the pent-up air inside with a "bang".  If there are two kids, they will repair each other's hole. If there are more, it will be prescribed who repares whose, and sometimes, two teams are made. When all smack their Wawus, players all shout "Egg" or "Flake", the voice first heard goes. "Egg" means repairing the hole in your playmate's Wawu with a clay ball--hence the name "Egg", while "Flake" means doing that with a thin piece of clay. The rule is that the egg or the flake should not get through the hole. If it happens, more clay is to be added to the egg or the flake to make it bigger enough to cover the hole. At times, the repaired Wawu is picked up and jolted to see whether the repair is well done. When it's over,  the one with most clay is the winner.  What decides whether you will shout out "Egg" or "Flake" is the size of the hole in your Wawu. If the hole you make is large, you're supposed to shout "Egg", if small, "Flake" is the right word for you need more clay to win. A simple game like this takes the coordination of your eyes, brain and hands to play it well. Players also get physical training during the game. The "bang"  to me is just like the firecrackers set off in the Spring Festival, full of merriness. When looking back upon the past, a vivid image is called up:a kid tightens the belt, wipes off snot, lifts up his Wawu, exert all his strength to smack Wawu against the ground. With an ear-splitting "bang",  a big hole pops up. Watching the playmate repairing the hole  after "Egg" is claimed, the kid looks like a general who has just won a battle.

  3. 打拉子Batting a stick with two pointed-tips
“打拉子”的道具为一根拉子棍-----其粗细长短以人手握适中为宜,通常长约半米左右,最好有些弧度,一根拉子---即两头削尖的短棍,长度从10至20厘米不等。其基本打法就是先用拉子棍轻击拉子的尖端,使其在空中跳起,然后在其未落下后用力击打拉子中间部位,尽可能地将拉子打向远方。当然,拉子跳起后却击不中的情况是常有的。敲打拉子有很多规则。我们常玩的就是在大方块里再画一个小方块,方块没有固定的尺寸,就像回字一样,不过大方块和小方块的角也是用线连起来的,在大方块的一边还有一个半圆。如图。

The props of the game--"Batting a stick with two pointed-tips (Batting Lazi)"  are a stick, which knows no exact  dimensions (the ones we used uaually measure about half a meter), if only the player sees it fit,  and a Lazi-a stick with two pointed-tips, whose length ranges from 10 cm to 20 cm. The basic stroke is to beat the tip of Lazi, getting it to jump up into the air, then hit it as far as possible with the stick before it falls back onto the ground. New players often miss Lazi. There are many different ways to play "Batting Lazi". We usually  played "Batting Lazi" the following way. First, draw two squares, one in the other; draw lines to link the corners of outer square and the inner square; on one side of the outer squre, draw a semicircle. See the following chart:

游戏开始时,先轻敲拉子让其落在回字方框内的任一地方,落在不同的地方有不同的规定,图中的数字表示拉子落子该区可以打几下,如果落在线上,则需将拉子一端立在翘起的脚尖上,一端用一个手指按住,然后用拉子棍用力击打拉子使其尽中能落在远方。如果落在半圆内则需用一支手捏住拉子一端,然后用拉子棍用力击打拉子中部使其飞往远处。然后由击打的一方喊出距离,通常是以“丈”计,这个“丈”不是真正意义上的丈,通常是指一拉子棍的长度。比如击打者打出拉子后,认为有20拉子棍的长度,就可以喊20仗。如果拖延时间长了,另一方会问你“要多少?”击打方就会说“我要XX丈”。如果大家都认可这个数字,就算作击打方的成绩,最后累计长者为胜方。如果对方不认可这个数字,他们就会用拉子杆量距离,当然量距离大家都有风险,如果对方不认可,但是量后证明达到了此距离,那么击打方可以再重新来一次;而如果测量后证明击打方“要”多了,即实际距离没这么多,那么此次成绩无效,由另一方开始击打。打拉子还有很多其他玩法,可谓五法八门,充分验证了“人民的智慧是无穷的”这句话是多么的正确。

To start a game, one player beats a tip of Lazi to make it roll through the air and fall onto a part of the square. How many strokes you can make if Lazi falls into a certain part is prescribed as the chart shows. If Lazi happens to lie on any line, the player is expected to place one tip of Lazi against his tipped-up toe, and place one finger on the other tip for support, then hit Lazi as far as possible. If Lazi falls into the semicircle, the player will have to pinch Lazi with fingers, then bat it with the stick. The batter shouts out the distance he assumes Lazi flies. The distance is measured in Zhang--not Zhang in real meaning, here Zhang means the length of the stick. If the batter thinks the distance measures 20 Zhang, he will call out "20 Zhang" loudly. If the other part accepts the call, the nmber is valid. And the player get the largest number is the winner. If the other part  believes the batter overcalls the number, he will ask to measure the distance stick by stick to check it. If the outcome proves smaller than the batter claimed, the nubmer is invalid. And the other part will play. But if it's the other way around, the nubmer is valid and the batter get another chance to play.  The ways to play this game is multifarious, and the above is just one example. In my opinion, batting Lazi fully proves to us how true it is to say "Wisdom of the people is limitless".
