Last night, I suddenly woke up from a little strong shake that came from my bed. It was about 1:20 a.m. at that moment. And I found that all my roommates woke up too. Many a student got up, to see what was going on. We knew it was a aftershock, but still felt scared. But no one was allowed to go out from dormitory building. For after a while, the aftershock ceased.
Since the earthquake happened on May 12, 2008, in Wenchuan, Sichuan province, we had been in a panic this week. When going to bed or having class, we always did ready to run, if the building shook. There did be nights that I couldn’t sleep well. We were so scared that we slept on the ground on Tuesday night. Fortunately, the aftershocks happened during these days were not so heavy that we had to run away. Just could feel some extend of shock.
What we were really worried about was the big earthquake happened in Sichuan. Especially in Wenchuan and Beichuan. Could you imagine that a city was seriously destroyed just in one day? What’s worse, tens of thousands of people died in a short time. This earthquake became a disaster. May 12, 2008, became a recorded day in history forever. People wouldn’t forget this heavy day, which the nature played a joke to human beings all of a sudden.
The disaster was cool while people were warm. Hearing the bad news in China, many western countries stopped attacking China’s Olympic torch relay temporarily, but caring about the process of the earthquake. Many countries came to their rescue, offering all kinds of aids. They praised Chinese government’s speed and ability in emergency as well.
In our country, people donated money, blood, supplies, etc. The people in disaster districts were surrounded by strong love. People helped each other, tried their best to save most persons.
Though I didn’t experience the earthquake myself, I still could feel some kind of misery from people’s cries, sad expressions, even the bodies. However, we were giving them force with our love, and praying for them with our sincerity. Wish Sichuan people safe and sound.
